Mardi Gras in the UK

Mardi Gras in Leicester was a total bust. The only people who were wearing beads were in the group I came with, and everyone else at Red Leicester was either wearing campaign tshirts (student elections are this week), or was pretending to be pregnant.

Apparently, Mardi Gras is more of an American thing.

  1. Did I miss something? Pretending to be pregnant, what? Also, you should totally snag a campaign shirt. What are their coalition names? Their platforms? I'm so sad I missed that!

  2. Yeah, there were a lot of girls with balls stuffed up their shirts to look pregnant. It was weird. And I would snag a tshirt, but they were all made by the people wearing them. Basically people bought plain shirts and spray painted their choice on the front and back. From what I can tell, it's a bit less serious here. When I voted, there weren't parties, just individual people running for specific offices. It's not as big of a deal as it is at KU, but the one similarity that I did notice was that there are still people standing everywhere harassing you to vote.
