Coping with my Fears: 21 Day to Departure

As I prepare to study abroad in Leicester England for the spring semester, my mind is on overload. I have never felt so much excitement and fear at one time.

Charlotte Bronte phrased this sort of feeling very accurately in Jane Eyre:

"It is a very strange sensation to inexperienced youth to feel itself quite alone in the world, cut adrift from every connection, uncertain whether the port to which it is bound can be reached, and prevented by many impediments from returning to that it has quitted. The charm of adventure sweetens that sensation, the glow of pride warms it; but then the throb of fear disturbs it; and fear with me became predominant..."

My friends and family seem very concerned that I will be mugged, or the Tube will get bombed as I'm riding it, or I will kidnapped like the girls in "Taken"-or even better-find myself on a hijacked airplane.

As you can probably imagine, my friends and family have eased my fears considerably.

  1. Hey... I wasn't worried about you getting mugged or blown up. The chances of that happening are practically nil, and even if it did happen, I know you could take the bastards.
